State Route 159 (Bridge Street) Corridor Improvements

In an effort to increase safety, reduce congestion, and enhance infrastructure, the Ohio Department of Transportation – District 9 has developed a project to make several improvements in Ross County along the S.R. 159/Bridge Street corridor between Riverside Street and the Chillicothe Mall. The design includes an additional northbound through lane, improved lane utilization for southbound lanes and additional pedestrian facilities.

The S.R. 159/Bridge Street project will impact five intersections, as well as the U.S. 35 interchange. Planned improvements include:

  • Addition of a third northbound through lane from Stewart Rd. to north of Pawnee Ave. (Chillicothe Mall entrance)
  • Construction of a roundabout at the Stewart Rd./Consumer Center Dr./Nourse Automall intersection
  • Lane reassignments on Southbound Bridge St. throughout the corridor to improve lane utilization
  • Construction of a new local road behind Applebee’s and Raising Cane’s that will connect North Plaza Blvd. and Marietta Road
  • Minor realignment of the U.S. 35 Eastbound off-ramp and removal of the existing slip ramp to Southbound Bridge St. and changing from asphalt pavement to concrete pavement on Bridge St. through the interchange area
  • Improvements and modifications to traffic signal operations along the corridor.
  • Construction of improved pedestrian facilities on both sides of Bridge St., including a multiuse path on the east side of Bridge St. from the Scioto River bridge up to the U.S. 35 westbound off-ramp.
