Historic Tours

Engage Chillicothe•4 years ago Chillicothe has a rich history, and there aren't many better ways to take it in than by a ride on the trolley. Let us know in the comments when you think tours should be, what they should include, and where they should go.

Public Event Reservations

Engage Chillicothe•4 years ago The trolley could be a fun and efficient way to take people in neighborhoods and hotels to and from special public events like First Thursday, the Feast of the Flowering Moon, Statehood Day, and others.

Addressing Homelessness (various phases)

Engage Chillicothe•4 years ago Many people voiced the need for additional support to help those who are experiencing homelessness. Ideas ranged from support to increase the number of shelter beds available and providing permanent supportive housing to linking resources for those individuals. Comment below ways you would like to see funding support individuals and families experiencing homelessness.

Amphitheater

Engage Chillicothe•4 years ago An amphitheater in or around Yoctangee Park could serve as a hub for theatrical productions, courses, meetings, celebrations, and other outdoor events. The idea of an amphitheater was included in the 1993 Parks Improvement Master Plan. Have a look at the attached PDF to see the conceptual plans from that plan!

Armory Revitalization and Programming

Engage Chillicothe•4 years ago Rehabilitation to the the Armory in Yoctangee Park has been in the works for several years, including a tuckpointing, a new roof, and repainting the second floor gymnasium. This idea would fund additional renovations to the Armory to restore the facility and utilize the space for programming needs identified by the community. If you prioritize this project, tell us below how you would like to see the Armory used.

City Park Upgrades

Home Repair Program

Engage Chillicothe•4 years ago One of the most effective strategies for maintaining affordable and attainable housing is to ensure the existing housing stock remains in good condition. Home repair programs revitalize blighted properties that make for safer, more attractive homes and neighborhoods. A program will be developed to provide support for residents look to rehabilitate their homes.

Improved Streetlights in Parks and Public Spaces

Engage Chillicothe•4 years ago Increase lighting in parks and public spaces (e.g. the bike path) to improve safety and extend the ability to use the facilities later in the evening.

Sidewalk Repair Program

Engage Chillicothe•4 years ago Sidewalks serve an important function within the City. They provide a walking path to schools, businesses, and community events. They separate pedestrians from vehicular traffic improving safety, and they connect residents, making a neighborhood a community. Well maintained sidewalks improve the appearance of neighborhoods and increase property values.As defined by Chillicothe Codified Ordinance 903.01,  property owners are responsible for the maintenance and repair of faulty or defective sidewalks, curbs and gutters abutting their property. This project idea would establish a program to provide supporting funds to share the costs of sidewalk maintenance and repair with the property owner.

Downtown Recycling Bins

Engage Chillicothe•4 years ago Provide recycling bins in Downtown Chillicothe to promote sustainable behavior among our historic downtown's residents, businesses, and visitors.

Improved Communication Efforts from the City

Engage Chillicothe•4 years ago During the first round of engagement, several ideas proposed or problems presented already had efforts underway. Further, conversations highlighted the need for easier to access information regarding city services and operations for the general public - both new residents and life long residents. This project would fund support to improve communications and education coming from the City regarding new/ongoing projects as well as informing residents of existing baseline services provided.

Become a Blue Zone City - America's Calling for Community Well-being

Engage Chillicothe•4 years ago This project idea is to dedicate necessary resources for Chillicothe to take a community-wide approach to well-being through the Blue Zones Project.The Blue Zones Project is a proven model for transforming the health of large populations. Blue Zone Communities have experienced: Double digit drops in obesity, smoking, and BMI (body mass index) Millions of dollars of savings in healthcare costs Measurable drops in employee absenteeism For 20 years, Blue Zones has worked in hundreds of American Cities implementing evidence-informed Community Well-Being programs to improve population health and economic vitality. In a full Blue Zones community transformation, they optimize:The built environment: Improving roads and transportation options, parks, and public spacesMunicipal policies and ordinances: Promoting activity and discouraging junk food marketing and smokingRestaurants, schools, grocery stores, faith-based organizations, and workplaces: Building healthier options into the places people spend most of their timeSocial networks: Forming and nurturing social groups that support healthy habitsHabitat: Helping people design homes that nudge them into eating less and moving moreInner selves: Encouraging people to reduce stress, find their purpose, and give back to the community

Reentry Program Support

Engage Chillicothe•4 years ago Collaborating with a partner agency, funding support can be provided to enhance services to individuals leaving incarceration with a goal of successfully integrating the individual back into the community.

Affordable Housing

Engage Chillicothe•4 years ago A need for affordable and quality housing to purchase and rent has been identified. This idea would prioritize solutions to increase affordable housing stock in the city. Ideas may included development of vacant land to encourage developers or partnering with agencies like Habitat for Humanity and Sojourners to provide a road to homeownership. Other ideas to explore include action steps identified in the recent Housing Study completed in Fall 2021 (attached below).

Mental Health Support

Engage Chillicothe•4 years ago Mental health support came up throughout all four public meetings. Ideas included providing mental health professionals in school for youth to access like nurses and guidance counselors, educational campaigns regarding suicide and mental health issues, and facilities for living, treating, and/or resource access.

Basic Life Skills Education

Engage Chillicothe•4 years ago Equipping our youth to be successful in life is crucial to a healthy city. This idea suggest providing or enhancing the availability of courses like financial literacy, home economics, woodshop, digital literacy, tax preparation and other life skills.

City Pool Scholarships for Kids

Engage Chillicothe•4 years ago Creating a fund to provide free access to the David M. Smith Memorial Pool for underserved youth.
