Sidewalks serve an important function within the City. They provide a walking path to schools, businesses, and community events. They separate pedestrians from vehicular traffic improving safety, and they connect residents, making a neighborhood a community. Well maintained sidewalks improve the appearance of neighborhoods and increase property values.
As defined by Chillicothe Codified Ordinance 903.01, property owners are responsible for the maintenance and repair of faulty or defective sidewalks, curbs and gutters abutting their property. This project idea would establish a program to provide supporting funds to share the costs of sidewalk maintenance and repair with the property owner.
